The Phoenix Art Museum is a relatively new, modern building in central Phoenix. It is location on Central about a mile north of the downtown area. It is located right next to the Phoenix Theater, creating a beautiful area for the arts right in the middle of Phoenix.
Right after you buy your ticket to the Phoenix Art Museum you will see a work of art called “Black Cloud” by Carlos Amorales. This exhibit stretches all the way up the near 30 feet walls and ceiling of the Phoenix Art Museum. It has little black birds all around the walls and will stand out to anyone who can see in the entrance of the museum. It is one of the largest works of art one will ever see.
Another impressive exhibit on hand is “Teotihuacan”. Teotihuacan is an old Mexican city near Mexico City. It was known to be the city of fire and the city of water and is home to numerous tales of Mexican mythology. Something that really impressed me about this exhibit was murals made around the year 200 that were used for solar energy. Even all that time ago the people of that day found a way to use the sun and use it for it’s energy. Most of the pieces in this exhibit were made out of rock. It was very impressive to see how much was carved out of rock given the tools they used were not advance back in their day.
One of the most interesting parts of the museum to me was the beautiful courtyard in the middle. The courtyard contains various restaurants as well as places where people were able to relax. Overall, a trip to the Phoenix Art Museum will mean time well spent.
